Introduction

Society for Rural Industrialisation was registered in 1984 under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 by a group of scientist, engineer and senior government functionary to respond to the increasing demand for alternative development system.

Absence of Science & Technology backup in rural lives and shortage of skilled manpower for socio-economic development was a big challenge to this group. This mandated SRI to carry out rural development activities through Scientific and Technological intervention. SRI adopted a philosophy of working, terming it “Philosophy of 3 Cs”- Competence, Confidence and Comprehension.

SRI initiated training of tribal youth in different skill. Through these trainees technology infusion was initiated in rural areas.

SRI is a multidisciplinary organization working in five Thematic areas. Themes are decided by technology and target population. These are:
  • Technology for Marginal Farmers – Soil & Water Management, Soil Health, Agriculture and Aquaculture.
  • Technology for Rural Women – Health, Finance Management and Social Organisation.
  • Technology for Rural Professionals – Engineering, Energy and Processing.
